Wavy Updates

The MELOA team has been conducting test campaigns to validate the performance of the WAVY Basic and WAVY Littoral surface drifters, improve its features and implement selected use cases. This includes numerous tests, changes and software updates, in order to optimize multiple characteristics of these drifters, such as endurance, data transmission and robustness of scientific data. In parallel, the team has also been improving the WavyHub mobile application, by upgrading and adding new features for control and quick pre-review of data downloaded from drifters.

Test Campaign with the WAVY Basic and Littoral

The first WAVY Ocean units have been deployed to test the overall performance of the device. The recently developed new ARGOS communications module and low profile antenna are already embedded on-board and the results achieved are as expected, so far. The tests will continue to assess the endurance and robustness of the WAVY Ocean units. In the meantime, a new encapsulation technique is being developed and tested. This new technique will greatly simplify the production of this surface drifter, and will also allow access to, and replacement, of the internal modules when required.
