On the 10th of March 2020, a WAVY Test Campaign took place in Sines Coast (Portugal).
The purpose of this campaign was to acquire data from the WAVY Littoral, along with a Datawell Waverider MKIII buoy, to validate the WAVY's wave sensor. The Support to the Captaincy of the Port of Sines provided a semi-rigid vessel to MELOA team.
In total, three Wavy Littoral units were deployed: one of the WAVY drifters was attached to the Datawell wave buoy, while the other two were freely drifting at the ocean's surface. The activities lasted one hour, with an average swell of 2.0 m and 11 seconds of period.
The next Test Campaigns that were previously planned to take place in April, at the Ireland coast, were put on hold due to the COVID-19 crises. Once we're back on track, we'll let you know!
Meanwhile, feel free to visit MELOA Catalogue and MELOA Geoportal to check the curated datasets collected and derived data collected during the last WAVY Test Campaigns. |
