MELOA joint forces with RADAR-ON-RAIA and MyCOAST with the aim to conduct an exercise to combat marine pollution, by performing a test campaign with the products and equipment developed under the scope of these projects.

The exercise took place in the maritime area between Vigo (Spain) and Porto (Portugal), from 21st to 25th September.

In order to maximize the outcome of this anti-pollution exercise, products and data from these European projects were combined, with the following objectives:

  • Demonstrate the tools developed in the MYCOAST project, in particular, the oil spill prediction tool with the ability to integrate forces from different partners;
  • Test the RADAR-ON-RAIA's drift boys, and use them to calibrate the currents generated by the project antennas in the area;
  • Test the functioning and the predictive capacity of the WAVY drifting buoys, developed in the scope of MELOA project.

The exercise consisted of 3 launches with the drifting buoys at different locations, followed by their monitorization through drift forecasting tools. Such exercise can be useful to collect meaningful data to help reduce marine pollution in the region. The data collected has been processed and analyzed, and soon it will be made available by the different projects.
