WAVY Test Campaign in the Portuguese Coast

 

The first WAVY test campaign took place in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, on the 16th and 17th June.

 

The test campaign consisted in a demonstration of the WAVYs within the scope of MELOA project. The main objective was to observe and take measurements of the rip currents during those days at the Cabedelo beach.

 

In an interview with the Portuguese radio station RAM, António Jorge da Silva, from Instituto Hidrográfico, explained that the demonstration was aimed at raising the awareness of the bathers, by involving them in practical observations on coastal circulation at Cabedelo beach, helping them to recognize, avoid and leave return currents safely.
